In 2003 I graduated as a certified Hudson Institute Coach in Santa Barbara California, and also completed a conflict resolution and mediation certificate from Mediation Services in Winnipeg. Many multi-skilled young college graduates and other seasoned professionals are curious about my work as a farm family coach.<\/p>\n
Today I am building a team of committed empathetic folks who share my mission to help farm families in transition get unstuck. Back in 2003 you would have labelled me a \u201ctrailblazer\u201d when farm folks did not think finding harmony in understanding was marketable. It is now.<\/p>\n
My current team of amazing coaches have been training with me as I share my roadmap for coaching families. Our vision is helping families to build more effective communication.<\/strong> Our goal is to have coaches able to serve across North America who desire to help farm families transition well. We do this virtually on zoom.<\/p>\n As I am aging in place on our seed farm in southwestern Manitoba, our coaching team is part of my 4th succession plan.<\/p>\n In 1992 my husband Wes and I bought the farm from his parents, who had bought the farm from his maternal grandfather in 1945. In July of 1998, I had crucial conversations with my farming parents, and then buried my mom too young at age 65, only 6 weeks after that family meeting with the accountants in July. In 2019 we started transitioning one of our businesses to our successor son and his wife, and are now in a joint venture with his corporation.<\/p>\n Like many of you, I am a farm partner, farm advisor, parent, and grandparent. She is a Certified Executive Coach from Royal Roads University and has taken additional training in mediation and negotiation in Canada and the US. Lydia has also done training in mental health first aid and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) as a way to support her farm team, community and clients. <\/p>\n Beyond her farming and facilitation work, Lydia has been involved in farm education, policy and advocacy work over the years through various organizations and has traveled through Canada, the US, and internationally to Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Brazil and the UK to do research, workshops and work on farm policy issues.<\/p>\n Lydia has hands-on experience as a farm founder and owner\/operator of a growing and profitable cattle grazing and beef business that she started in her 20s. She and her spouse\/ business partner are also part of a joint venture and transition plan with non-family. He also has training in conflict management, mediation, and group facilitation.<\/p>\n Lyle grew up on a family farm in Manitoba\u2019s Red River Valley. Growing up on the farm gave him an in-depth understanding and appreciation for Agriculture and for the dynamics of farm family operations. The experience of his family\u2019s business transition has led to a desire to help families navigate the often complicated and difficult process. Equipping families with communication skills and conflict management techniques can go a long way towards building resilient and sturdy relationships.<\/p>\n Lyle also works as a Grain Marketing Advisor where he assists farmers as they produce and sell their crops. Furthermore, Lyle is a Metal Fabricator specializing in steel and titanium bicycle frame building and other general welding projects. Driven by a desire to deepen her expertise, she continued her studies at the University of Alberta, completing a Master\u2019s in Accounting degree.<\/p>\n After obtaining her Chartered Professional Accountant designation, Alyssa realized that her true calling lay in combining her agricultural roots with her accounting skills. Based in Olds, Alberta, she has provided clients with a range of services, including personal and corporate tax planning and preparation, financial statement analysis, cash flow management and forecasting, as well as transition planning and navigating the complexities of business sales.<\/p>\n Her own family farm is currently transitioning to the next generation, which has deepened her passion for helping other farm families successfully navigate this process.
